Caribbean athletes shine in Olympics
With traditional Olympic power Cuba leading the way with 29 medals , Caribbean athletes
shone at the recently concluded summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Jamaica finished
with a record haul of 7 medals. The Caribbean was impressive in the relays, with:
- the fleet-footed women of the Bahamas and Jamaica finishing 1-2 in the womens 4x110
- Jamaica medalling in 3 of the 4 relays, barely missing medal by 4th place in the 100 m
men 4x100
- 5 out of the 8 finalists in the womens 100 m were from the West Indies (3 Bahamas
and 2 Jamaica). This does not include Marion Jones, the star of the entire Olympics, whose
mother hails from Belize (formerly British Honduras).

Jamaica Dominate Bobsled World Champs
Yes, its true! At the 7th World Bobsled Push Championships on September 3 in
Monaco, Jamaica won 2 gold and 1 silver medals.
Jamaicas Winston Watt and Lascelles Brown took the 2-man, beating reigning European
champs into 2nd place. This duo teamed up with Wayne Blackwood and Garnett Jones for 2nd
place in the 4-man behind defending champs from the US. Athletes from 24 nations competed.
Porscha Morgan and Wynsome Cole took gold for the first ever womens competition.

World Cup CONCACAF Section - Semi-finals
The World Cup 2002 playoffs are now in thre 2nd round, the
semi-finals for the CONCACAF regions. The teams compete in 3 groups, Group C,
D, and E with the top 2 teams going through to the Final Group of CONCACAF
qualifying, when the top three in that stage will go to Japan and Korea in 2002.
T&T and Jamaica Surge Ahead
Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica have surged to the head of
their respective groups. They both have won all 4 of their games, with T&T on an
impressive scoring rampage. Favorites the US and Mexico are both in second place in their
groups. All four teams have clinched positions in the next round with Costa Rica and
Honduras rounding out the final 6.
